The “Palmė” is a reinforced concrete column. Its materiality contrasts very clearly with the converted environment of the residential area.
On the one hand, this column supports the industrial memory of the district and refers to the contexts of urbanization and technical progress. On the other hand, “Palmė” creates a space for new relationships while becoming a monument to the recent history of Paupys.
Žilvinas Landzbergas – sculptor, installation artist, a Vilnius Academy of Arts graduate. Since 2003, he has participated in exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad, representing Lithuania at the Venice Biennale (2017) and the São Paulo Biennale (2018). The artist’s works are characterized by the harmony of material, exhibition space, and light, and he is concerned with the relationship between the art object and its surrounding environment.
