“Asukas” (Finnish for “residents”) is a series of stainless-steel sculptures whose shapes replicate the reflections of sunlight in Vilnius.
The asukas on the stairs and facade of the Paupys adapt to the local architecture and exactly replicate the reflections from the windows of the building opposite to them at precisely 10.18 a.m.
Beatričė Mockevičiūtė is an active artist of the younger generation. She graduated in scenography and sculpture from the Vilnius Academy of Arts; her work aims to make tangible what is often transparent and ephemeral in everyday life. The sun’s reflections visit the places where she places her sculptures; the gaze is the main tool to identify them.
B. Mockevičiūtė was named the best young artist of the ArtVilnius art fair in 2016.
